Gilman Electrical Supply was founded in 1961 in Newport, Maine by Goodwin “Goody” Gilman. The company built its reputation on dependable service and strong relationships with customers throughout the region.
Consolidated Electrical Distributors (CED) was established in California in the 1950s and officially adopted the CED name in 1964, growing into a nationwide network of independently operated electrical distributors.
In 1985, Gilman Electrical Supply became part of the CED network when it was acquired by the Colburn family. Under CED’s decentralized model, locations retain their original identity while benefiting from the resources and purchasing power of a national organization.
Today, Gilman Electrical Supply operates 11 locations throughout Maine.
